I can only suggest to keep an open mind about all this VTC extravaganza and realize that my little "1,2,3," part of my post was simply to humor the situation. It wont be determined for some time whether or not the fix I have aplied will work or not - Brett and I feel that ~8K miles is sufficient duration to satisfy the question. I kindof cringe to recognize this, but I know that I've stuck my neck out on this one for sure, LOL. If I am wrong I am sure you can imagine the poundage of egg I'll be scraping off my face likely indefinately. :) BUt there is another possibility that hasn't been entertained - that both what Brett does and what I do, although very different from each other, will prevent the noise from occuring for many miles. In a lot of systems, especially one possessing multiple mechanical architectures such as seen in the VTC, it is possible to have a number of different modifications that can be made which will produce very similar or identical end result. In fact, this can already be observed by the fact that what Brett modifies is very different than what I modify, but they both produce an end result of a noise-free VTC. At this point it is just a matter of longevity. Brett and I have determined a metric of which to use for determining whether or not my modification can be deemed as a solution, which is based on mileage, and I will keep everyone posted through that duration. Although it scares the you-know-what out of me to think that I could be totally wrong on this, (LOL), I do have quite a bit of faith in this modification and evem in the worse-case scenario, totally losing my a$$ here, this VTC extravaganza will very likely have informed far more people about this problem/fix than if nothing had ever been posted. In addition, the positive effect this extra exposure of Brett's product will have will very likely produce positive results on his sales as well. So lets not get our panties all wadded up right at the moment - what I have done has eliminated the noise but it really needs to be tested to make sure the cam isn't over-rotating as well as endurance tested. I assure you that I will post accurate feedback through the duration of the test period (and ongoing if all is well) - regardless of the results. Pretty nuts, eh? LOL It is looking like the potential for painting myself into a corner is pretty high.. But for what it is worth, and perhaps it may help you (and others) understand where I am coming from, all I have really been seeking is the answer to the question of what causes the VTC to rattle.......... and whether or not making a public post about this was a good or bad choice is still to be determined. :)
